ISIS 2012 Conference Report

The German Institute of Navigation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ortung und Navigation e.V., DGON) organized together with the German Society for Maritime Technology (Schiffbautechnische Gesellschaft e.V., STG) the International Symposium INFORMATION ON SHIPS „ISIS 2012“ from August 30 to August 31, 2012, high above the Port of Hamburg.

The conference was opened by the scientific chairman of the conference and chairman of the DGON Maritime Commission, Professor Dr.-Ing. Reinhard Müller, University of Wismar.

 

The compliments of the First Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic Town of Hamburg were delivered by Mr. Andreas Richter, Ministry of Economy, Traffic and Innovation.

Under the scientific chairman of the conference, 22 authors from Europe, Africa and North America presented their up to date research results.

Complementary to the scientific chairman, Dr. Volker Köhler, Ralf-Dieter Preuß and Ralf-Peter Lauck had undertaken the additional “Sessionchairs”.

The presentations encompassed the areas:

  • Bridge Resource Management
  • Sensors and Components
  • E-Navigation
  • Operational Integration Aboard and Ashore and
  • Visions and Strategies in the next Years

The declaiming authors out of 9 nations exemplified with exciting presentations the highlights of their scientific fields to the 70 conference participants. The follow on discussions indicated the high interest of the symposium participants.

The participants took care of the “Postprocessing” with animating talks during the coffee breaks.

The terrific view into the busy and sunny Port of Hamburg supported the relaxed and at the same time stimulating atmosphere of the conference.

Following a long tradition the first arduous conference day ended with a delicious and relaxing “Conference Dinner” at the Restaurant Port of the Hotel Hafen Hamburg

The next ISIS is planned for 2014.

With ISIS 2012 the 2 years interval is picked up again, which was interrupted in 2010.
